Karachi: KE consumers may soon receive a relief of Rs4.69 per unit as the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is set to hold a hearing today on KE’s plea for tariff adjustment.
KE has formally requested the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to approve a reduction of Rs. 4.69 per unit in electricity tariffs for its consumers, citing lower fuel costs for April 2025.
If approved, this adjustment could provide significant relief to KE, amounting to approximately Rs. 7.17 billion.
The request is part of the routine monthly fuel cost adjustment mechanism, which reflects fluctuations in fuel prices. The proposed decrease is driven by decreased fuel prices observed during April, aiming to pass the benefit directly to consumers.
The hearing on KE request is scheduled for today before NEPRA.
This development follows NEPRA’s recent decision on the utility’s write-off petition, which allowed K-Electric to claim partial recoveries of Rs. 50 billion against its claims of Rs. 76 billion related to the Multi-Year Tariff (MYT) control period spanning FY17 to FY23.
If approved, the tariff reduction will mark a positive step towards easing electricity costs for consumers amid ongoing energy sector adjustments.
Earlier on June 5, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) reduced KE tariff by Rs2.99 per unit.
According to the notification, the reduction was made under monthly fuel adjustment for March which will reflect in the June electricity bills, offering some respite of KE consumers amid soaring power costs and prolonged load-shedding in Karachi.
