ISLAMABAD: Fly Jinnah is set to introduce direct flights between Pakistan and Bangladesh, aiming to boost travel and trade between the two nations. The announcement was made by Bangladesh’s envoy to Pakistan, Iqbal Hussain, on Friday, confirming that an agreement has been finalized to establish this new air route.
The airline plans to begin flight operations soon, providing a faster and more convenient travel option for citizens of both countries.
Recognizing the long-standing need for direct air connectivity, Fly Jinnah’s new service is expected to enhance tourism, trade, and economic cooperation. This initiative is also anticipated to strengthen diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
During his visit to educational institutions in Pakistan, Hussain commended the country’s education system, describing it as the "backbone of society" and lauding institutions for their role in nurturing young talent.
Pakistan and Bangladesh share a complex history, having been one nation before separating in 1971. In recent years, under Sheikh Hasina’s leadership, Bangladesh has maintained strong relations with India. However, with the recent shift in the Bangladeshi government, relations with Pakistan are showing signs of improvement.
Earlier this week, while addressing the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Hussain also announced plans for cargo flights between Dhaka, Karachi, and Lahore. These flights are expected to facilitate trade by simplifying the transportation of goods between the two countries.
He further emphasized Bangladesh’s commitment to strengthening business ties with Pakistan, highlighting the ease of obtaining Bangladeshi visas online for Pakistani citizens, which will encourage greater travel and trade opportunities.
